I've been wanting to do this project for a while, so when Jessica of The Sewing Rabbit asked me to join her in Kid's Inspiration and Design Series, I knew exactly what to make... a placemat and lunch based on my daughters' drawings.
On a large piece of paper, I drew around the components of my daughters’ lunch boxes. I then asked my daughters to draw their ideal lunches.
Nola drew lemonade, strawberry yogurt, blueberries, and cherry tomatoes as sides. For her main dish, Nola drew a pattern of asparagus, spinach, popcorn, and cheerios.
I hand-sewed a placemat out of muslin and felt that looks exactly like Nola's lunch drawing. Then I made the lunch out of real food!
I can guarantee this lunch won’t come home half eaten.
Next week I'll show you Kira's lunch - I just have to find a baseball-sized strawberry at the grocery!
