Hello and thank you for visiting. My name is Helen and I live in Tennessee with my husband and our identical twin girls.
I began this blog, Curly Birds, 3 years ago and it quickly became an avenue to document the crafts I made with my then 2 year old twins. These days I write tutorials for children and adults focused on hand-sewing felt as well as crafting with paper and up-cycled household items.
I come from a long line of creative and crafty people who have inspired me to make instead of buy. My mum knitted, sewed and cross-stitched her way though my childhood and I learnt to sew when I was very young. I can't remember a time before sewing!
My family has always been spread over two continents - Europe and North America. As a child, we spent a lot of time making gifts for our loved-ones far away. In turn, my aunt and grandmother sent lovely hand-made pretties to us. Now that my girls have cousins in several states and aunts over a few countries, I try to stay connected by sending meaningful gifts that my girls have made. And letters. We love letters. We love to write them, we love to mail them, we love to receive them.
Most of all, I enjoy making things for my girls to infuse their lives with a little more love.
