It has taken me a lot of tears and a few days to write this post. Last week the crafting world lost a dear blogger – Kathreen Ricketson.
Kathreen was adventuring on a year-long camping trip with
her partner and their 2 children. Sadly and shockingly, this adventure came to
an abrupt end when Kathreen died in a tragic accident in Coral Bay, Western
Australia. Her partner, Rob Shugg, is still missing. My heart is aching for
their dear children, Otilija and Orlando.
While I never met Kathreen in person, I was fortunate to know her. I guest posted on Whip Up several times and more recently she invited me to write for her children’s magazine, Action Pack. Behind the scenes, Kathreen was so very supportive and I considered her a mentor of mine. Over the last few years we shared email exchanges about blogging, writing, and creating. In fact, Kathreen’s series about writing a book was created out of an email thread we had and her support of my dream to write a book.
Kathreen’s blog, Whip Up, is a beautiful mix of her work, family life, and show case of fiber artists. Kathreen quit her full-time job to quilt, write and blog. Kathreen wasn’t afraid of a little controversy. Kathreen always seemed so thoughtful in the way she parented, balanced life and work, and lived life with an adventurous spirit.
My thoughts and love are with Otilija and Orlando – I am so sorry for their loss. Please join me in contributing to a fund for their future. x
